Head of Police Media DIG Ajith Rohana today said another chance had been given for people who arrived in the country from overseas from March 16 onwards to register themselves with the nearest police station to continue with their self-quarantine process.

Speaking at the daily media briefing he said the deadline for registration would be up to noon on April 1.

"If those individuals fail to register themselves with the police, legal action will be taken against them under the criminal law," the DIG said.

The police already received the registry of all the persons who entered the country since March 16 until the closing of all arrivals of the airport by the Immigration and Emigration Controller.

"After 12.00 p.m on April 1, the police will search out the suspects according to the registry and take action to arrest and quarantine them," he said.

The police will then proceed to remand them for violating quarantine regulations, DIG Ajith Rohana added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
