Quarantine centre occupants to be moved into home quarantine : Army Chief

The individuals, who are currently in quarantine centres, will be moved for home quarantine in the next 48 hours after they being subject to PCR tests, Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva said.

Addressing the media he also said a relief package containing essential food items would be provided for those who serve the 14-day quarantine process at home.

“The Government decided to provide this relief package considering the situation that those who are on a 14-day quarantine are not allowed to venture outside to buy groceries or other essentials,” he said.

Earlier, it was decided to place the first contacts of COVID-19 infected patients under home quarantine. Though earlier they were sent to quarantine centres, such positive patients will no longer be sent there, but will be placed under home quarantine.

It was reported the there is excessive capacity in quarantine centres at present. It was also reported that expatriates arriving in future will have to bear the costs of PCR tests, quarantine procedures, accommodation, etc.(Sheain Fernandopulle)
