Promotions for police officers who served ten years: Chamal

State Minister of Defence Chamal Rajapaksa said he had already submitted a Cabinet paper seeking approval to promote police officers who completed ten years of service and eligible for promotions.

Addressing a meeting at the Ambalangoda Theraputtha Rajamaha Vihara Temple, he said police officers should receive their promotions on the due date as an incentive to perform their duties with a sound mind. He pointed out that a separate unit had been established in the police by the previous regime to fabricate charges against rival politicians and to arbitrarily arrest them

“Officers who were well versed in fabricating charges had been referred to that unit. A national council comprising the Prime Minister and several ministers and parliamentarians had been established to advise the unit on the arrest of rival politicians. Today the police is free of interference. The arrest of former Minister Champika Ranawaka was not political victimisation. There is a case against him," the state minister said. (Sanath Gamage)
