Parliamentarian Prof. Channa Jayasumana is among 38 Sri Lankans in the Stanford-Elsevier classification of top scientists.
The database for the last exercise (10 Oct 2022) for citations in Scopus up to the end of 2021, was released last week.
This scientometrics exercise is an ongoing collaboration between Stanford University, USA and the well known publishers Elsevier. The database comprises the top 100,000 scientists by what is called a "c-score"; plus those within the top 2% of such c-scores in 176 sub-fields.
Altogether 195,605 scientists are included in the career-long database and 200,409 scientists in the single recent year (2021) dataset.
These include scientists with Sri Lankan affiliations. Some may not be working in Sri Lanka at present and others may be overseas scientists working in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan parliamentarian Channa Jayasumana, Professor in Pharmacology was also in the list.
