Police had completed investigations into 32 suspects who were directly or indirectly involved in the Easter Sunday suicide attacks and eight files have been submitted to the Attorney General in order to file cases against them, Public Security Minister Sarath Weerasekara said today.

He told Parliament that the AG would file cases against the suspects on charges of murder, vandalism and causing injuries after receiving the report of the Presidential Commission of Investigation on Easter Sunday Attacks.

“Police have completed the investigations and submitted the files to the AG to file cases against the suspects. The AG is waiting for the PCoI report as the evidence in the report can also be used when filing cases. The PCoI report will be issued on January 31 this year and cases will be filed soon after the report was issued," he said in response to a question raised by SLPP MP Nalin Fernando.

He said investigations are underway on another 246 suspects who are detaining or in remand prison in connection with offences of supplying weapons, training and instigating racism through Madrasas.(Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
