President Maithripala Sirisena commented on the course of action he is going to take on the Central Bank bond scam at the SLFP annual convention at the Sugathdasa Indoor Stadium on Tuesday afternoon after going through the three forensic audit reports on the fraud, a senior government source said today.

Three forensic audit reports on the bond scam have been handed over to President Sirisena in early this week and he is determined to go deep into the scandal and take legal action against those involved directly and plotters who masterminded the biggest ever plundering of public money in the country.

‘The biggest issue is to bring back main suspect, former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran on whom three arrest warrants have been issued by the Interpol. President Sirisena has instructed the Attorney General’s Department to expedite the process to extradite Mahendran to Sri Lanka from Singapore based on the evidence contained in the case against Mahendran at the Fort Magistrate Court.

“President Sirisena has got criticism from some quarters for alleged slow action on the bond scam. Therefore, he is determined to bring all those involved in the bond scam to book before the presidential election,” the source told Daily Mirror. (Sandun A. Jayasekera)
