President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is on a reformist path and has already taken a number of measures to change the system, Opposition MP Wimal Weerwansa today said.

Addressing a news briefing, the MP said the Galle Road in front of the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo was closed for the ceremony of the President’s assumption of duties but it was reopened on the President’s instructions.

“The President ordered to open the road and also to remove a fire truck which was blocking the road saying that there was no threat of fire. He has already said not to use his photograph at government offices,” MP Weerwansa said speaking at the SLPP head office in Battaramulla.

He also said President Rajapaksa was contemplating to bring down the Presidential Secretariat staff to a mere 250 from an oversized 2,000.

“He is yearning to change the traditional political system and to put an end to waste and corruption,” he said. (Lahiru Pothmulla)
