President holds talks with Putin in Tajikistan

President Maithripala Sirisena held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding sanctions imposed by the United States on imports made by Sri Lanka from Russia, the President’s Media Office said.

A statement from the office said the two leaders held talks on the side-lines of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on Saturday (15).

The two leaders also exchanged views on further strengthening bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and Russia. President Sirisena extended an invitation to the Russian President to visit Sri Lanka in the near future.
