President discusses his remarks with Cabinet

President Maitripala Sirisena yesterday briefed the Cabinet on his controversial remarks and stressed that he should be apprised prior to the arrest of military personnel, Daily Mirror learns.

He said he was never opposed to investigations being carried out.

The Cabinet met for the first time yesterday after the President remarked that the Bribery Commission, the FCID and the CID had been politicized.

It shook the Government with the ministers seeking prompt remedial measures to prevent any negative fallout.

He said as Commander in Chief and the Defence Minister he should be notified prior to security forces personnel being arrested. (Kelum Bandara)
