The United National Party (UNP) presidential candidate would be decided based on the candidate finalised by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), UNP MP Thushara Indunil said yesterday.
Addressing a news briefing, he said they had their candidates who were eligible to the presidential candidacy.
“We are in no hurry to announce the presidential candidate unlike the SLPP. It seems the SLPP is in quandary over presidential candidacy. There are confrontations within the party whether to select Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Basil Rajapaksa or Maithripala Sirisena,” the MP said.
“We have set of candidates whose chance of contesting at the presidential election would depend on the candidate selected by the SLPP,” he added.
Meanwhile, the MP stressed that the investigations into the bond scam were not carried out in a proper manner and seemed investigations were being dragged.
“It is like an Indian drama which has thousands of episodes and actors. The investigations into the bond scam are just like that,” he said. (Sheain Fernandopulle)\
