Had the Yahapalana government fulfilled its responsibilities properly, there would be no necessity to observe Black Sunday in protest of the Easter Sunday attack, Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said today.

He said it is an insult to the victims of the Easter Sunday attack that the ministers and MPs of the previous government, which were responsible for the attack, have joined the Black Sunday protest.

"The yahapalana government is fully responsible for the Easter Sunday attack. Ranil, Maithri and everyone who was a cabinet minister in that government should be responsible for it. Not only that, the members of the minority parties who supported the yahapalana should also be held responsible," the minister said at a meeting held at the Udugampola.

He said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa made it very clear on Saturday that those involved in the Easter attack would be punished.

"We are working on that now. Although we are not satisfied with the Commission report, the present government has the responsibility to implement its recommendations," he said.

Meanwhile, the minister said that an investigation should be initiated into the statement made by former state minister and SJB MP Ashok Abeysinghe who said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Premier Mahinda Rajapaksa should be held responsible for the Easter attack.

"This statement should be investigated immediately. It is a statement made to mislead the people," Ranatunga said.(DSB)
