Political victimization commission report handed over to President

The Presidential Commission appointed to look into the alleged political victimization during the previous government’s tenure today handed over its report to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Chairman of the Commission retired Supreme Court Judge Upali Abeyratne submitted the report to the President at the Presidential Secretariat.

The President appointed the Commission on January 09, 2020 comprising of members such as retired Court of Appeal Judge Daya Chandrasiri Jayatilleke and retired IGP Chandra Fernando.

Accordingly, the Commission was empowered to look into the alleged political revenge on government officials, employees of state corporations, members of the armed forces and the police during the period from January 8, 2015, to November 16, 2019.

A total of 1971 complaints were received according to the newspaper advertisement and submitted for investigation. The report consists of 03 volumes and 2043 pages. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
