The Sri Lanka Police initiated a special operation to detect persons who have travelled out of Western Province, despite requests to remain within the province, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.

“The operation will focus on guest houses and hotels and other places of accommodation where people may have lodged after traveling out of Western Province. We have appealed to the residents of Western Province not to leave for any reason. However a special operation was launched to identify if people have travelled out of Colombo, circumventing Police road blocks, and to obtain information on such persons,” DIG Rohana explained.

He said that action will be taken against people who have travelled out of Colombo violating quarantine regulations under the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance.

“Preparations are also underway to identify those who have left the Western Province, on Thursday and Friday upon their return on Monday once the quarantine curfew is lifted,” DIG Rohana said.

He added legal action will be taken against such persons on charges of violating the quarantine law.
