Police officers interdicted for threatening man with gun

Four police officers including a Sub-Inspector (SI), two Sergeants and a Police Constable of the Dambulla Police Station have been interdicted in connection with a tense situation which occurred at a restaurant in Dambulla.

Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunsekara said the four police officers, who were in civilian clothing, had entered the restaurant last night and requested the staff exchange a bottle of alcohol.

When the restaurant staff refused to exchange the bottle, one of the police officers had pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the head of the staffer and threatened him.

A complaint was lodged by the management of the restaurant following which an investigation as launched into the incident.

The Spokesman said the police officers were found guilty during the preliminary investigation. If the police officers were under the influence of alcohol when the incident occurred is yet to be verified.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing. (Piyumi Fonseka)
