Police investigate death of cook at Galle Face Court

The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) and the Kollupitiya Police are investigating the death of a 49-year old man who had worked as a cook in an apartment at the Galle Face Court housing complex in Colombo.

The Kollupitiya Police recovered a burnt body from the apartment following a tip-off received to the 119 hot-line on Saturday. The body was found with both hands and legs tied to the bed.

According to the initial investigation, the deceased was a resident of Arangala in Athurugiriya and had worked as a cook and driver at the apartment in which a British national and his spouse, a Thailand national, resided, the police said.

The police have recorded statements from the residents and the security officer of the housing complex.

Meanwhile, the police said a complaint had also been lodged stating that the driver, a former employee of the British national of the same apartment, had gone missing.

The wife of the driver, who is a resident of Moratuwa, has lodged the complaint.

The Police have also commenced investigation into the disappearance of the driver.(DS)
