Police curfew in Colombo lifted

The police curfew imposed on several police divisions in Colombo last night has been lifted, Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said.

The curfew was imposed within the Colombo North, South, Colombo Central, Nugegoda, Mount Lavinia and Kelaniya Police Divisions last night due to the tense situation that erupted outside the private residence of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa last evening.

The curfew was lifted at 5 a.m. today.

Police used teargas and water cannons to disperse the massive crowd who were protesting near the private residence of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in Mirihana last night after they broke the first barricade and tried to storm towards the President’s residence.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
