Police Sargeant nabbed while driving with heroin trafficker

The Bandaragama Police have arrested a sergeant attached to the Kollupitiya Police Tourist Division along with three other persons, including a heroin trafficker for travelling in a car without curfew passes.

Police said a car travelling from Galle towards Panadura was stopped and searched when it exited the Galanigama interchange yesterday evening.

The police Sergeant, a resident of Panadura and three other persons in the car were later produced before the Bandaragama Police on charges of violating quarantine curfew.

Further investigation revealed that the Sergeant has rented the car from a cab service in Bandaragama area after producing his ID card.

Police said a large scale heroin trafficker, a 32-year-old Kasun Pushpa Kumara alias ‘Karawalaya' was also among those arrested.

It has been revealed that ‘Karawalaya’ was transporting heroin in a large scale from Panadura to Galle, Midigama, Weligama, Kalutara and Waduwa with the assistance the police Sergeant.

Kasun Pushpa Kumara alias Karawalaya was arrested in Galle and Panaduwa in an earlier ocassion and is on bail over heroin trafficking charges.

It was reported that the Sergeant is a driver of a high ranking officer in a special division of the police headquarters. He has been in contact with heroin traffickers for a long time and had been assisting them using his uniform and identity card.
