Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) OIC DIG Sajeewa Medawatta has been transferred to the Police Welfare Division with DIG G.K.J. Aponso being appointed as the new head of the PNB.
Acting IGP C.D. Wickramaratna has made the transfer with the approval of the National Police Commission (NPC) and the Election Commission.
He requested NPC approval to transfer DIG Sajeewa Medawatta and the Director of the PNB SP Manjula Senarath.
NPC Secretary Nishantha Weerasinghe said the acting IGP recommended the appointment of DIG Aponso as the new head of the Police Narcotics Bureau and SSP Sujith Wedamulla as its new Director.
SSP Wedamulla is currently functions as personal assistant to the Badulla Senior DIG.
Mr. Weerasinghe said the transfers would be approved at the NPC meeting on Thursday. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
