Pilot project launched to use modern technology to control traffic congestion

The police initiated a pilot project this morning in Nugegoda on the High Level Road aiming to use modern technology to control traffic congestion and to arrest errant drivers.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the pilot project was initiated in Nugegoda this morning to monitor the vehicle fleet that are coming towards Colombo from High Level Road. 

He said drone cameras are utilized to monitor the situation. 

“Police , the traffic police headquarters, the STF and Airforce are contributing to this pilot project. The pilot project is implemented on the instructions of the President. We are going to use modern technology in order to control the traffic congestion and to arrest indisciplined drivers. Initially, the pilot project is conducted on the High Level Road. Our idea is to expand the project to Low-Level Road, Galle Road, Negombo Road and Kandy Road. It will be spread to main cities such as Kandy and Kurunegala thereafter,” he said.
