Even though we have not agreed as a party, the people are getting what they have asked for from President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said at the weekly media briefing.
"People did not request concessions. They requested that the President impose more taxes and not reduce tax collection. Therefore, the President is following those requests," he said.
"People who staged an aragalaya on the streets and requested these are currently receiving them. As a party, we do not agree with the ongoing activities.
"But we have decided to present a different proposal for the people, and they will give their vote if they like. If people want to go forward with the current situation, we can let them do so. In a democratic country, the country will move forward depending on the people's vision," Kariuawasam said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
