People asked to follow strict traffic rules

Police requested people to strictly adhere to road traffic rules today claiming that December 31  normally recorded as the day where most number of accidents occur, as per the police statistics. 

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said people should take all precautionary measures to prevent road accidents today, being the most vulnerable day of the year.

He said 50 people have been killed and 132 were injured in 613 road accidents reported during the past 10 days ending at 6.00 am today.

DIG Rohana said 82 drunk drivers have been arrested during the last 24 hours ending at 6.00 am today, increasing the total number of offenders arrested during the past ten days to 1398.
