The passengers on board the Colombo bound bus (NB - 9268), in which the five COVID-19 escapees from Gallella had travelled from Polonnaruwa at 5.45 am today, have been asked to serve the mandatory self-quarantine, Police said.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said, it was revealed that the inmates reached the Polonnaruwa Bus stand at around 5.30 a.m today and boarded the Colombo-bound private bus from Polonnaruwa.

The inmates reportedly got off at Kurunegala and then used another transportation thereafter. The police spokesman requested the passengers onboard the NB-9268 bus, which commenced its journey to Colombo at 5.45 from the Polonnaruwa Bus stand to serve quarantine process and also instructed to contact the nearest Police Station, PHI or MOH.

"Action would be taken against the passengers who fail to adhere to the instructions," DIG Rohana said. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
