The Parliamentary Select Committee probing the Easter Sunday attacks is to finalise its reports by August 25 this year, a member of it said yesterday.

This member of the Select Committee who did not wish to be named because he is not authorised to comment to the media said the Committee would complete the report by August 25, 2019.

He said most of the deliberations had been completed at the moment. The Committee is to summon several intelligence officers including CID Head Ravi Seneviratne, Director CID Shani Abeysekera, SIS Director Nilantha Jayawardene on July 24, 2019.

Also, the committee member said they would discuss the request made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to meet Archbishop Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith on July 24, 2019, prior to the proceedings of the Select Committee.

The Premier on Monday requested the PSC to meet Cardinal Ranjith and hand him over reports of the investigations carried out on the Easter Sunday attacks by the intelligence units.

Prime Minister was of the opinion that it was proper to present the intelligence reports on church attacks to the Cardinal, as the church has legitimate concerns and has a right to know whether investigations were carried out in a proper manner. (Yohan Perera)
