PNB gears up probe to trace drug packs sent from Dubai: Police

The Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) is conducting special investigations to trace the individual or parties who had sent the two packs containing drugs to Sri Lanka through a courier service, the Police said.

Police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the police geared up investigations to net the culprits who had sent this contraband from Dubai on December 27, 2020.

He said the packs contained 28g of drug known as 'Kush' which contains cannabis and 38g of Kush extract. The parcel was couriered under a fake sender's name and the PNB is conducting investigations to trace the recipient, the Spokesman said.

Meanwhile, another pack that had been received on January 4, 2021, from Dubai, he said. 

"The origin of the pack marked as sent from France and channelled through Dubai to Sri Lanka. That pack too contained 4,962 synthetic drug pills," he said.

The PNB had launched an investigation to find the recipients of these packs, DIG Ajith Rohana said.

He said it has become a trend these days to send these types of packs containing drugs and the police have been instructed to take stringent actions against the perpetrators. (CS and DSB)
