While condemning the actions of the 18 officers alleged involved in a chain of drug related charges, Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Ajith Rohana today said the guilty parties should be served the capital punishment.

Speaking to media, he said even though the death penalty hasn’t been implemented in the country for a long time these officers if proven guilty should be served the capital punishment as such these officers should be completely removed from the society.

He said the 18 police officials attached to the Police Narcotics Bureau were being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and no bias would be shown towards those officers simply because they were police officers.

“Police officers risk their lives in their battle with the drug syndicate. They have been shot. Among those brave officials, it is disgraceful to see these few officials who tainted the " name of the police" he said.

He said they wished to conclude the investigations as soon as possible and take strict legal action against the guilty parties. (By Thisari Walawege)
