PCoI on Easter Sunday Attacks - Yahapalana Govt. didn’t pay attention: Wijeyadasa

If the former yahapalana government had paid attention to the statements made in the Parliament regarding the involvement of Sri Lankans in the Islamic State (IS) organization, the coordinated terror attacks on April 21 and the destruction of the UNP could have been prevented, MP Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe told the PCoI on the Easter Sunday attacks.

He said this when questioned by MP Mujibur Rahman.

Dr Rajapakshe submitted a list of names of those having alleged connections to extremists and MP Rahman's name was also mentioned. This led to MP Rahman requesting the PCoI to question Dr. Rajapakshe.

MP Rahman asked Dr. Rajapakshe the basis on which his name had been mentioned in the list.

Dr. Rajapakshe in his response said in the list he had mentioned were several names of the politicians including M.L.A.M. Hizbullah and Azath Sally.

"Former minister Rajitha Senaratne and MP Rahman had challenged me over the statement I made in the Parliament on November 18, 2016 regarding Sri Lankans joining IS. Challenging such a statement in itself a support for terrorism," he said. (Yoshitha Perera)
