Over 3,000 arrested in special raid

A total of 3,265 persons were arrested in a four-hour special operation conducted islandwide yesterday morning, police said.

Accordingly, 401 persons were arrested for drunk driving while 882 were arrested in relation to the possession of heroin or other illegal narcotics.

Police arrested 1,080 warranted suspects and 767 suspects in connection with other criminal offences during the raid.

Police said the special raid was carried out from 2.am to 6.a.m on Sunday and 14,695 police personnel were engaged in the operation.

Meanwhile, the police said 4,667 persons have been charged for road traffic violations during the operation.
