Operations at the Western Province Special Investigation Unit were temporarily suspended after an inspector tested positive for COVID-19, Police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.

He said an Inspector attached to the police Unit of the Fort Police Station tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday. Due to the incident, all officers attached to the police unit had been quarantined. About 48 police officers attached to several other departments of the Fort Police Station were quarantined at the police station.

The inspector tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday following PCR tests.

All other police officers attached to the Fort Police Station were quarantined at their Barracks where they were posted on duty. "Therefore, no operation was conducted at the Fort Police Station. The public were advised to visit the Slave-Island and Fort police stations to obtain their services," he said.

The Western Province Special Investigation Unit will be disinfected today and will assign police officers from other police stations to continue with the activities based on the recommendations of the health officials.
