Obstructing SB’s vehicle: MSD officers to be produced for identification parade

The two police MSD officers who were arrested for shooting at a crowd that obstructed Parliamentarian S.B. Dissanayake’s vehicle would be produced for an identification parade today, the police said.

The officers will be produced before Hatton Magistrates' Court for the identification parade.

Two protestors sustained gunshot injuries in the incident.

The two officers, attached to the Ministerial Security Division (MSD), were arrested by the Ginigathhena Police for opening fire to disperse a group of people who had obstructed Parliamentarian S.B. Dissanayake’s vehicle on Wednesday.

According to Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara, MP Dissanayake's vehicle was obstructed by a group of people at Polpitiya in Ginigathhena at about 7.30 p.m last evening.

“The MSD officers in the motorcade opened fire to disperse the protesting crowd. During the shooting two persons were injured,” he said.

He said the injured were admitted to the Theligama Hospital last night but later on, one person was transferred to the Karawanella Hospital. The other person sustained minor injuries.

"The two pistols with the MSD officers were taken under the Ginigathhena Police custody. Three empty bullet shells were found," the police said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
