Though the Epidemiology Unit saying that the COVID-19 virus still not emerging from the community, the number of patients who are existing in society is more serious than we think, the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) said.

Addressing the media GMOA Editor Dr. Haritha Aluthge said after studying the reports, it is clear that where the virus is heading to.

He said many cases reported have proven that the virus has started to move out of the WP.

"The number of COVID-19 positive cases recorded during Rapid Antigen Tests conducted in persons who had left the WP. These recoveries give alarming signs of the virus spreading out of WP," Dr. Aluthge said.

Therefore, swift and wise decisions must be taken to bring the situation under control, he reiterated.

"The random COVID-19 tests carried out in every places find at least one positive case," he said.

Hence, the number of PCR tests should be increased.

However, the GMOA claimed that the number of PCR tests conducted daily had declined compared to the previous months. This is not a good sign, because COVID-19 is like a hidden bomb in the community, Dr. Aluthge added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
