Even though he was ready for the character of Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapaksa or Gotabaya Rajapaksa, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said today he was not ready to resort to bad politics just as the opposition.
He expressed these views at the “Gama Samaga Pilisadara” programme at Lathugala, Uhana in Ampara this morning.
The President said Buddhist Clergy and the people were expecting him to play the role of the Defence Secretary, who he was before becoming the President.
“The LTTE terrorists set off a suicide bomb at the Piththala Junction targeting me. People know what was the fate the terrorists leader had to face. Even though I am ready for the character of Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapaksa or Gotabaya Rajapaksa, I am not ready to resort to bad politics just as the opposition,” he said.
While claiming it was upto the judiciary to punish wrongdoers, the President said he was not prepared to interfere with judicial matters and resort to political witch-hunt just as the previous government did.
He requested the opposition to engage in reasonable politics without spreading wrong opinions among people.
