While stressing that there was no risk of social transmission of the COVID-19, Director General of Health Services, Dr. Anil Jasinghe said today even if there was a COVID-19 patient in society, no one would contract the virus if they properly adhere to health guidelines issued by the health ministry.

He told a news conference that people should follow health guidelines issued specifically for general election and common health guidelines issued for day-to-day adherence such as wearing face masks, maintaining one-metre distance and using hand sanitizers regularly.

Dr. Jasinghe said more than 8000 health officials are set to be deployed for election duties throughout the country.

The Health Services Director General said people who had completed the 14-day mandatory quarantine process and the COVID-19 patients who recovered would be able to cast their votes after 4.00 pm.

“They should avoid public transport systems to reach at the poling centres,” he said.
