Government has no intention of settling Sinhalese in the North and the East and change the ethnic ratio in any area, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe told parliament today.

The Prime Minister said this in response to a question raised by TNA MP Charles Nirmalanathan who said the government is renovating a tank in Kachalsamanakulum in Vavuniya to settle Sinhalese in this area.

“Government has no intention of settling Sinhalese in any Tamil area. We have no intention of changing the ethnic ratio in any area. Let us know the details of any government officer is doing such a thing and we will take steps to stop it,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister added that funds have already been disbursed to renovate Nanjundankulum tank as per the request made by the TNA MP.

Minister Agriculture, Irrigation, Rural Economy and Fisheries Minister P. Harrison said the government will go ahead with the proposed Yodha Wewa project soon. He said the people in Mannar and Wanni will benefit from it. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
