No decision yet to impose nationwide curfew on Sunday

The islandwide curfew which was imposed yesterday morning will be relaxed on Saturday morning at 4 am and there is no decision as yet to impose an islandwide curfew on Sunday, a senior official from the President's Office told the Daily Mirror yesterday.

However from June 6, curfew will be in effect from 10 pm to 4 am in all the districts and there have been no discussions to lift the curfew completely from next week as one more cluster remains active in the country.

"The islandwide curfew will be relaxed on Saturday morning as earlier announced and there is no decision as yet to impose a nationwide curfew this weekend. Discussions on this matter have not been held. Further, there has been no discussion as yet to lift the curfew completely from next week," the official from the President's Office said.

Sri Lanka relaxed a curfew in Colombo and Gampaha from May 26 but since then has been imposing a nationwide curfew on Sunday to prevent public gathering during a holiday.

This weekend will be the first since May 26 that a nationwide curfew will not be imposed on Sunday.(JAMILA HUSAIN)
