5 July 2019 12:12 pm

The Prisons Commissioner General today assured the Appeal Court that no convict would be executed until July 17, the date on which it would deliver its order on the preliminary objections on the maintainability of the writ petition challenging the implementation of the death sentence, interim relief and issuance of notice.

The Bench comprised Justices Yasantha Kodagoda (President / CA), Deepali Wijesundera, Janak De Silva, Achala Wengappuli and Arjuna Obeysekere.

The Attorney General raised preliminary objections on the maintainability of the petition and the jurisdiction of the Court of Appeal to hear the case.

Deputy Solicitor General Nerin Pulle appearing for the AG said the President was not a party in the petition and requested Court to dismiss the petition. (S.S.Selvanayagam)
