Former Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director Shani Abeysekara yesterday testified before the PCoI probing Easter Sunday attacks said that there were no concrete information on foreign links that involved in the Easter Sunday suicide attacks at the time he was serving as the Director of the CID.

Appearing before the Commission, former CID Director Abeysekara said that he was not aware of the present status pertaining to the investigation into the Easter Sunday attack, but said immediately after the suicide attacks that took place during his tenure as the CID Director, there were no verified or concrete information on any foreign links to the attack.

He also expressed his concern over the slow pace in investigations into the vandalizing of the Buddha statues in Mawanella and the discovery of explosives in Wanathawilluwa prior to the Easter Sunday attacks on April 21, 2019.

Mr. Abeysekara who is currently in remand custody and serving interdiction, started giving evidence before the PCoI on Monday. Earlier he appeared via the Skype technology while being admitted to ward number 42 of the Colombo National Hospital. (Yoshitha Perera)
