No bar for courier services during travel restrictions: MP Withanage

No restrictions were made to operate courier services in the country which is categorised under the essential services, despite travel restrictions, Special COVID-19 Committee member MP Madhura Withanage said.

He told the Daily Mirror that courier services are considered as essential service and can be operated under their company logos.

"Several well-known courier services are in operation in the country which is not restricted. However, they need to have their valid company ID and documents to prove that their service requirements at the security checkpoints," the MP said.

He also said this matter would be taken up for discussion at the COVID meeting today.  

Western Province Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon also advised on this, MP Withanage added.

Several complaints have been lodged with the National Movement for Consumer Rights Protection (NMCRP) for not allowing courier services to pass police and security barriers operating under COVID travel restrictions. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
