There have been no isolated cases of COVID-19 patients found in Colombo or its outskirts and all associates linked to the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Center inmates and its employees have been traced while further monitoring is continuing, Director General of Health Services, Dr. Anil Jasinghe told Daily Mirror last evening.

Reports of isolated patients being detected in Nugegoda and Avisawella spread across social media yesterday leading to panic of more possible clusters being detected in Colombo.

However Dr. Jasinghe said such reports were false and no patients had been found in Colombo or its outskirts and a majority were found from the Rajanganaya area and the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Center and those associated with the employees and inmates from the Center.

Dr. Jasinghe further dispelled rumors that Rajanganaya had also transformed into a new cluster stating this was an extension of the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Center.

Authorities yesterday sealed parts of the Rajanganaya area as movement along Track 1, 3 and 5 was suspended following the detection of more patients.

This has been done to prevent the further spread of the virus in the area.

As at last evening, 492 patients had been detected from the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Center while the overall patient count has risen to 2,631.(JAMILA HUSAIN)
