The Management of the Nelum Pokuna Theatre has claimed damages amounting to an estimated Rs.200,000 from the organizers of the Mrs. Sri Lanka pageant, following the brawl which erupted last Sunday evening which led to the uncrowning of the winner.

Chief Executive Officer at Nelum Pokuna Theatre, Brigadier Sujith Balachandra told Daily Mirror that that damages had occurred to the entering path of the stage mainly from the high heels worn by the females.

"We already informed the organising committee for the recovery of the damages caused to the theatre by the beauty pageant," he said. "They are responsible," he added.

Balachandra further denied reports claiming that damages had been caused to even the dressingrooms stating these claims were false.

National Organizer of the Mrs. Sri Lanka for Mrs. World Chandimal Jayasinghe had claimed in front of the media a day after the pageant that the Nelum Pokuna Theatre had suffered extensive damages including mirrors being broken in the dressing rooms.

He further said that the organizers had made a payment to book the theatre for four hours, but due to the clash, a further two hours were extended which they would now have to pay for. He further said those involved in the brawl should take this responsibility. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
