Although the cause for the shutting down of the unit-2 generator at the Norochcholai coal power plant has been identified, it is still to be synchronised with the system which will cause power failures in several areas, Ministry of Power and Energy said today.

Media Spokesman and Development Director, Sulakshana Jayawardena, told the Daily Mirror that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) engineers were on the site doing their utmost to get the systems going.

Several areas were without power for the past one and half days after the unit 2 generator shut down due to a technical mishap.

"The unit supplies 270 megawatts of power to the grid. We have been forced to discontinue power to several areas to cope with the demand," Ms. Jayawardena said (Sheain Fernandopulle)
