The Sri Lanka Navy has sent a high-tech deep sea observation ship to assist fishing vessels which were washed away around Indonesian sea due to the impact of the “AMPHAN" cyclone, the Navy said.

They said that nearly 30 multi-day fishing trawlers which had set sail for fishing have been washed away towards the waters off Indonesia due to the impact of the cyclone.

As the impact of the cyclone subsides, the fishing vessels are returning and naval vessel deployed to provide assistance and to supply fuel to the trawlers, the Navy said.

The Navy is constantly working to protect the local fishing community on many occasions and all fishing boats that were affected by the cyclone would be safely brought to land, the Navy said.
