Narcotic detection - Cabinet nod to import 20 sniffer dogs

Based on a memorandum submitted by Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Arjuna Ranatunga, the Cabinet today decided to import 20 sniffer dogs at a cost of Rs.46 million to be used to combat the smuggling of narcotics into the country.

The sniffer dogs, especially trained in detecting narcotics, will be deployed at the airport.

A Cabinet source said the dogs would be handled by Air Force personnel and the first time that such dogs would be imported to this country. (Kelum Bandara)
