The National People’s Power was ready to take the responsibility of resolving the current political instability and anarchy in the country by forming an interim government for a period of six months if the other parties were willing to support them, NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissnayake said.

He told a news conference that their primary condition was that the President should resign immediately and the Speaker should act as the acting President as there was no Prime Minister at the moment.

He said if other parties were not willing to support the NPP to form an interim government, they would support other parties by remaining in the opposition without being party to the interim government.

“We have only three members in Parlaiment. However, we are ready to form an interim government for at least six months until this political instability was overcome and uphold political stability in the country,” he said.

Mr. Dissanayake said a general election should be held after six months to form a new government with people’s choice. (Ajith Siriwardana)
