It has been disclosed that there have been corruption and fraud within the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) since 2015, State Minister Channa Jayasumana said.

He said this had been revealed in the interim report of the five-member committee appointed to probe malpractices said to have taken place at the NMAR from 2015 to early 2021.

"The Committee headed by Retired Supreme Court Judge Kusala Sarojini Weerawardena has come out with several recommendations to be adopted in order to make the NMRA more efficient," he said.

"It has been categorically underlined that the NMRA act needs to be amended. We will be taking legal action against all wrongdoers," he stressed.

The State Minister also said the report would be tabled in Parliament in the future and would also be available in public domain. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
