While confirming that they have commenced an immediate recall of their product, the manufacturers of N-Joy assured that the product is 100% natural and does not go through any chemical refining process.

In a media statement, the manufacturers said theirs is the only one of the two white coconut oil varieties available for consumers in Sri Lanka, manufactured to stringent food safety and quality control standards.

"As responsible corporate citizens of this country and with the best interest of public safety, we have commenced an immediate recall of the product from the retailers' shelves. The trust of our customers and other stakeholders is of paramount importance to us," the statement underlined.

"We would like to assure our customers and other stakeholders that our commitment to getting to the bottom of this isolated incident and offer our complete cooperation to the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA)," the statement said.

"As a duty-bound and dignified company operating in Sri Lanka for over 100 years, pioneering coconut oil manufacture in this country since 1907 and having conferred with many awards and accolades over the years for the excellence in the manufacture of coconut oil, this incident is of prime concern to us," the statement added.

The CAA recently announced that all coconut oil stocks under the brand 'N-Joy' should be withdrawn from the market after the detection of carcinogenic aflatoxin found in the products.
