Former Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan’s brother Muttiah Prabhakaran has decided to contest the forthcoming general election in Nuwara Eliya District from the Sri Lanka Peoples’ Front with a view of helping the development programme led by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

He expressed his desire to contest at a media briefing held on Friday (21) after distributing household equipment to families displaced due to destruction of a line of houses at Blinkeybony Estate in Norwood in a recent fire.

He is well aware of the grievances of the estate people as Maskeliya is his parental native place and hopes to work to further develop the infrastructure facilities of the estate people after contesting the general election from the Nuwara Eliya District.

He also said he has by now held several pocket meetings and prepared to contest the election also with the blessings of his brother Muttiah Muralitharan.(Ranjith Rajapaksa)
