Mother finds son lost during tsunami

Abusali Sithi, a resident of Ampara is claiming that she has found her son who was five years old when he went missing in the deadly 2004 tsunami.

She told reporters at her residence today that she had never stopped looking for her son after he went missing and she was later told that he was seen at a local hospital.

However, when she visited the hospital she learned that her son had been taken away by a Sinhalese family.

Abusali Sithi said she continued her determination to locate her son but had very little support from the Police or the Human Rights Commission.

Eventually, she received information about his whereabouts and attempted to visit him at school to confirm his identity but the school authorities refused to allow her to meet him.

Sithi said she later established contact with him promising him employment and later revealed to him some unique marks on his body.

The boy had left the house he was staying in and went to see the woman claiming to be his mother and able to speak only in Sinhala had told reporters that he was convinced the woman was his mother and was happy to be reunited after 16 years.
