Eighty-seven 81mm mortar bombs and four pressure bombs which were believed to be buried by the LTTE, have been recovered by the Special Task Force (STF) at a forest land at Ampan in Jaffna today, STF Commandant Senior DIG M.R. Lateef said.

The weapons were recovered following information received to the Point Pedro Navy Camp which later informed the Jaffna STF Camp.

The weapons were found buried at a forest near a playground. The four pressure bombs, each weighing around 13 kgs, were made in Pakistan and had the ability to even destroy  tanks.

The STF suspects that these explosives and weapons were buried during the war. The recovered mortar bombs and pressure bombs would be destroyed following a court order.(.Darshana Sanjeewa and Romesh Madushanka)
