A depression in the South East of Sri Lanka has resulted in torrential rains creating a minor flood situation in the country, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) said.

Several roads in Colombo and its suburbs, Maradana and Wellawatta, were underwater this morning a spokesman for the DMC told the Daily Mirror.

Rainfall in some areas including Kurunegala, Awissawella and Hambantota were close to 100mm today according to the Meteorology Department.

Fishermen have been advised to be vigilant as seas off Mannar and Trincomallee are expected to be rough.
