Ministers using cocaine: Ranjan undertook a govt. contract - Gammanpila

While claiming that State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake’s recent remarks on cocaine being used by several ministers, were baseless, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) Leader Udaya Gammanpila said it was a contract given by the Government to the State Minister.

Addressing a news briefing yesterday, he said it was done with the motive of diverting the attention of the people and preventing authorities from attending to their respective work.

“Mr. Ramanayake does these types of things often. The government purposely uses him to entertain people during such situations that raise concerns to the general public. This is a serious issue that the government is allowing him to utter whatever the things that come into his mind,” MP Gammanpila said.

“Mr. Ramanayake once said there were 118 MPs who had obtained funds from Arjuna Aloysius and on another occasion, he said 95 per cent of lawyers are corrupt. It was evident that these statements have been made to gain popularity,” MP Gammanpila added.

He said the state minister had been unable to prove any of them.

MP Gammanpila proceeded to say that it was a shame for other ministers to keep Mr. Ramanayake in the cabinet by letting him tarnish their names at ease. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
